I’m the kind of gal who doesn’t like having my bare feet touch the floor. It’s just a sensory thing for me. So slippers are a non negotiable for me (ironically, my hubby is the exact opposite). That’s why I went on the hunt for a plastic-free, zero waste slipper. Enter Kyrgies, made from wool felt and vegetable tanned leather (NO synthetics). I got to try out two of their sustainable slippers and oh boy – do I have a lot to say! Here’s my full Kyrgies review plus an exclusive discount code for my readers only!

Kyrgies Review: My Honest Thoughts On These Sustainable Slippers

What’s the problem with conventional slippers?

Did you know most slippers are made from plastic? Most shoes (including slippers) on the market have plastic components (like polyester fabric or EVA). And this makes them extremely hard to recycle or repair.

23 billion pairs of shoes are made every year and 22 billion are thrown into landfills. And that includes slippers!

I’m not sure about you, but sweating into a pair of slippers made from polyester all day doesn’t sound the best for your health. And neither does it for the planet – because at some point, you’ll have to replace them. And plastic components won’t break down.

That’s why I was determined to find slippers that weren’t just comfy, but also plastic-free! And Kyrgies hits all those notes. And then some.

Kyrgies’ eco accomplishments:

  • A majority of their slippers are entirely free of plastics, made using locally-sourced wool, vegetable-tanned leather, and minimal, recycled packaging
  •  Every scrap left over in their women-owned factory is reused, whether as extra padding in their slippers or repurposed as natural insulation for buildings
  • Handcrafted by skilled artisans in Kyrgyzstan
  • 1% For The Planet partner
  • OEKO-TEX Certified

My experience with Kyrgies

Okay, so now that you get why I wanted to move away from conventional slippers, let’s get personal and focus on my individual experience with this brand. Here’s my full Kyrgies review!

What did you try?

I was able to try out their Bishkek Kicks and Indoor Wool Slides. Granted, the Bishkek Kicks were gifted to me, but the indoor wool slides I bought with my own money (and have been using them longer).

What did you think?

Now here’s the part you’re most curious about: My thoughts. I’ve divided this section based on the individual products I tried! Feel free to skip to which ever product most interests you.

Bishkek Kicks

These were gifted to me from Kyrgies. They’re comfortable, and definitely offer more support than the other slippers I have (more on that later). Which makes sense, considering these are meant to be worn both inside and outside!

That being said, it’s been so cold in New York I haven’t had the chance to try them on outside. Apart from occasionally using them on my porch.

Kyrgies recommends not getting them wet (because they’re made from wool), and there has been so much ice and snow on the ground. I’ll update this post again in the spring and summer when I get the chance to try them outdoors!

As far as indoor wear goes, I love how secure they make my feet feel. They’re perfect for doing chores around the house or just lounging about.

As a freelancer/blogger, I spend a lot of time at home. So I basically live in slippers the whole day. I can safely attest to these holding up for long periods of time with no foot pain, cramping, or icky smelling feet at bed time.

And no, they don’t itch! I love having two pairs I can swap out whenever I wish because if one needs a spot cleaning, the other is a viable option. Or, my mom can borrow them when she comes for a visit.

But to be honest, I don’t reach for these as often as I’d like. Maybe in the warmer months that will change!

Indoor Wool Slides

I ordered these for myself back in May of 2025 and have been using them since then. I was in need of a new pair of slippers because (sorry if this is TMI but…) my old ones were making my feet smell. Yeah, not pleasant.

So, I used it as an excuse to invest in these sustainable slippers! And it was the best decision ever.

I’m kind of obsessed and almost never take them off. As I type this, I’m legit wearing them.

I love the color because it’s neutral and goes with anything. And they are SO comfy cozy. I’ve been using them so much they’re starting to get a bit worn-out, but that’s just a testament to how well loved they are.

These aren’t designed for outdoor use and have a very flat sole. But I honestly prefer it (gives it more of that slipper feel IMO). They’re super lightweight, easy to slip on, and come in multiple colors.

And no – my feet do NOT smell after I’m done using these. Success!

I love how they’re free from harsh chemicals and made with all natural wool and vegetable-tanned leather soles. They’ll last a while, but every material is built to return to the earth at end of life, which is fantastic.

And they ship plastic-free! It comes in thick paper envelope. So what’s not to love?

My biggest complaint is that they’re starting to look a little less than ideal. And since they’re wool, I can’t wash them, but instead have to do spot cleaning with a damp rag and lukewarm water. Still, I’d definitely buy these again in a heartbeat.

Frequently asked Q +A

Okay so before we wrap up this review, here are some questions a lot of people have online about Kyrgies. They’re not personalized or anything, but mostly generic. To make this review as helpful as possible, I decided it would be best to answer them. Plus, it may clear up any questions you have about the brand yourself!

Where are Kyrgies made?

Kyrgies are made by hand in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, a mountainous region of peaks and fertile valleys. And they partner with a women-owned factory in Bishkek that pays fair wages and employs mostly women. Each slipper is made using centuries-old wool felting techniques for comfort, sustainability, and cultural preservation.

Should I size up or down in Kyrgies?

Kyrgies recommends you follow their conversions, but if you are between sizes, they suggest ordering up. If you have a wide or flat foot, Kyrgies Wides may be ideal for you. If your foot volume is low, Kyrgies recommends adding a pair of insoles to your order. Personally, I’m a size 6.5-7 in women’s and they fit like a glove! No issues or slippage.

Do Kyrgies slippers have good arch support?

The best Kyrgies for arch support would have to be the Molded Soles, which offer additional structure and comfort. I’ve never tried these personally, but I’d select these for the best orthopedic support!

How to wash Kyrgies slippers?

Wool felt (what Kyrgies are made from) can lose its shape when wet, so machine washing isn’t encouraged. Spot cleaning with a damp cloth and lukewarm water, followed by air drying, is best. However, dry cleaning is also a viable option.
