Prim Botanicals

The Basics

About the company:

Prim Botanicals is an all-natural beauty brand that feature various different products ranging from skin care to hair care. They offer a unique shopping experience where you can choose to shop their proper collection, or the not proper collection, or individual items. Their proper collection offers the Spoil Yourself Silly Body Scrub that I bought, as well as two other items – The Pretty Perfect Lip Sheen and Mademoiselle Swell Perfume Oil. The Not Proper Collection offers Hey Now Lip Sheen, The Debotchery Detox Body Scrub, and the Flor Oscura Perfume Oil. There’s a lot more to choose from too, but all the products contain safe, plant-based ingredients that are usually tropical in nature. Their oil blends are perfect and ideal for sensitive skin, as well as various other skin types. If you’re looking for a gentle, all-natural skincare line that’s cruelty-free and helps fight blemishes, this is the brand for you. As an added bonus, their packaging is beautiful and they like to offer little samples with every purchase (so trust me, you always win).

The Spoil Yourself Silly Body Scrub

Why you want it: Super fragrant, yet somehow not irritating, it’ll make you (and your whole house) smell like grapefruit while exfoliating and softening your skin (score!).

Its value: $39.00 (with tax it would be $42.96 – but with 10% off it would be $38.21

My review: I’ll be honest – I’m new to this whole body scrub kick. I’ve never tried one up until this point, but I’ve always wanted to. I liked the sound and look of this one a lot – not only am I a sucker for anything pink (thank the Himalayan salts in this for that one), but I really enjoy products that feature coconut oil in them. Coconut oil is just so nourishing and countless times I’ve been impressed with its moisturizing properties, not to mention its multi-functional abilities. I knew right off the bat this scrub wouldn’t be too rough or dry on my skin because of that (which is why reading the ingredients label is so important), and boy was I right. The first time I used it I was blown away by how soft it made my skin. It was so simple to apply too: It came with a beautiful mother of pearl application spoon (which was a treat in and of itself). I just scooped some of the scrub out and rubbed it onto my skin. I applied it to my legs and arms as evenly as possible, making sure to massage it in as best I could without making a mess. I advise doing this part over the bathtub, or at least in the bathroom, because I could hear and see pieces of the salt falling on the ground. It felt a little like I was applying damp sand onto my skin and rubbing it in – only it wasn’t as uncomfortable. The blend of oils (coconut being one of them), really helped nourish my skin from the start. Not to mention it smelled divine and like someone had poured pink grapefruit juice all over my arms and legs. After rubbing it onto my skin I decided to wait a good 5 to 10 minutes before washing it off. During this time I was careful not to do anything that would make more pieces of the scrub fall off, so I pretty much avoided sitting. For those who are curious, I was also wearing a simple t-shirt and shorts, so no specific clothing is required for this. When I was ready to wash the scrub off, I literally stood in the bathtub and ran the water as if I was making myself a bath. I put my feet and arms underneath the water and washed it off as best I could without wetting my clothes, then used a towel to dry off. Obviously, I could have just taken a shower to get the scrub off, but I had already taken a shower earlier and had already put my makeup on. I recommend doing this body scrub early in the morning or late at night before you take a shower, that way it’ll be easier for you to wash off. Despite that, it was well worth it! My skin felt smoother than before and smelt exactly like grapefruit (perfect for summer). My boyfriend loved it (he kept smelling my arm), and my parents even commented on how good the house, bathroom, and I smelt. So all in all, this stuff really works! You can use it 2-3 times a week and it’ll last you a while. Happy scrubbing!

The Hair Oil

Why you want it: If your hair is hard to tame, frizzy, and greasy after just one day without a shower, I definitely recommend this stuff – it’ll soften your hair and tame it for two days straight!

Its value: $44 (with tax it would be $47.91 – but with 10% off it would be $43.11)

My review: I have thin hair. A lot of it. It’s not always easy to manage. Curls don’t stay long in my hair and my strands always retains way too much oil. Showering every day is the only sure-fire way to make sure my hair doesn’t look like a lump of  frizzy grease. However, I must admit this hair oil has helped with that immensely. I prefer to apply products to my hair when its still wet, and then use the blow drier, but this product is versatile. It can be used as a hot oil treatment or a leave in treatment, depending on what your preference is. It came with a little card that explained how to use it with 3 different options: 1) leave it in for 30 minutes before washing hair. 2) Apply oil all over hair and scalp, put on shower cap, blow dry it gently, leave in for 45 minutes, wash out. 3) While hair is wet, add a few drops as a leave-in treatment. I didn’t use it for option 1 or 2, only 3. I like leave-in treatments better because it’s less work and less complicated. After I applied about a drop no bigger than a dime into the ends of my hair (would make my hair too oily if I put it on top), I made sure to work it in with my fingers. Then I blow dried my hair using my all-time favorite bamboo brush (relatively cheap – $9.20 – and bamboo is a sustainable material) to reduce knotting. I noticed almost immediately how soft my hair got- and it was still wet too. Forget it – when my hair was dry, I couldn’t stop touching it, it felt like silk. Not only was the texture amazing, but the frizz was minimal and also, the oil gave my hair some pizzazz! It wasn’t as lifeless as thin hair is known to be, but had some bounce and volume to it I wasn’t really expecting. The best part? It didn’t just last one day – I decided to test the waters and skip showering the next day. I couldn’t believe my eyes when I woke up – my hair wasn’t a wreck! It was actually tame and I felt confident enough to simply brush my hair and call it a day. Usually, day-after-shower hair is not pretty on me – it’s frizzy, unpredictably wavy, and of course oily. This time it was so much more tame, not nearly as frizzy, and certinaly less oily. And it wasn’t the only time – I tried this experiment 5 other times, all with the same results. I can safely say I’ve never encountered another product like this before, and I’m thoroughly impressed with this oil. If you like the sound of it, be sure to enter my code for 10% off your own purchase! Trust me, you’ll be glad you did.

The Face Oil

Why you want it: If you have sensitive skin, like the smell of rosemary, and are acne-prone, this is for you.

Its value:$60 (with tax it would be $65.33 – but with 10% off it would be $58.79)

My review: I’ve always had acne, ever since I could remember. It was persistent, but never over-dominating. I never had so much of it that my whole face looked red and blotchy, but when I had some, you noticed them. I could never resist (still can’t) popping them, which only made them worse and spread their disgusting curse over my face. While my acne has certainly gotten better (and I have natural skincare products to thank for that), it’s not completely gone either. I got this as a free sample, not even expecting it, but greatly appreciating it because of my past with acne. My goal is to wipe acne out completely. I’ve tried many things (from unnatural -before I knew about green beauty – to natural remedies), so I was curious to see if this sample would be any different. Guess what?: It works. I applied this face oil after I cleansed my skin for the night on the spots that needed clearing. It smelt like rosemary, but it wasn’t too harsh for my sensitive nose. I simply dotted it on and rubbed it in using tiny circular motions. When I woke up the next day, I was amazed to see my face was glowing. My acne had cleared up (not by much, but it was noticeably better) and I was speechless. I kept using it and noticed more and more of an improvement with each usage. In fact, this face oil got me on my longest acne-free streak ever –  no new pimples were coming in at all, just remains of old ones and dark spots. It was super impressive – but the streak was broken when I sampled the products in the July Petit Vour box. It was a complete mood kill – but as soon as I stopped using those products and went back to using the face oil, my acne cleared up! I don’t want to say this stuff is a miracle worker (after all, everyone’s skin is unique and reacts differently to what you put on it), but it’s hard to ignore the results. While it could be other factors (a reduction in acne can be caused by reduced stress, better eating, and many other things), I’m going to keep using it until the sample runs dry. By then, if my acne has completely vanished (or at the least minimized even greater than before), I’ll be sure to update you. All in all – get it. Give it a try. You might be in for a nice surprise (like I was).

  1. You may encounter some dry skin in the wake of utilizing your scour. It would be a best practice to saturate your skin after you clean. You can utilize other skin items, for example, a body salve or margarine to keep your skin saturated.
