Review: The Innate Life – Rose Hair Elixir

Review: The Innate Life – Rose Hair Elixir

I’ll be honest: I didn’t expect this sample to come. I had requested the first one to come a long time ago, practically at the beginning of the summer, but unfortunately it was stolen. My dad told me something came in the mail for me but the envelope had a hole in it and the sample was missing. Obviously, this didn’t make me happy. I told Innate Life about it and they kindly said they would send me another sample completely free (the original was too, but they were giving them out to a bunch of people to advertise their business). Unfortunately, it never came. Days, weeks, and before I knew it, months passed. I figured it got lost in the mail, so I kind of forgot all about it. I figured I wasn’t destined to get it and just let it go.

But one day, I just happened to be checking the mail, waiting on another package entirely, and there it was. A small little envelope with an Innate Life stamp on it. And no hole. It just goes to show good things can happen, even when you least expect it. Now, without further ado, here’s my review.

The Basics

About the company:
The Innate Life is an all-natural beauty brand that believes all beauty should be innately natural and non-toxic. This company specializes in haircare product. Their hair elixirs consist of the rose hair elixir and the beard and + hair elixir for men. They also have scalp treatments such as Hair Growth + Dandruff + Repair Scalp Treatment and the Hair Growth + Hydration + Repair Scalp Treatment. They also offer 3 bundles: One for Short Hair, one for Long Hair, and one for Men. They’re a relatively new company so I suspect there’s more to come, but their most popular item is the rose hair elixir. Quality over quantity is essential, and all their products contain organic ingredients. In fact, their rose hair elixir only has two ingredients that aren’t organic in it (but they’re still all-natural and completely safe). It’s important to note this start-up, Canada-based company only ships to Canada and the United States (sorry international green beauty lovers!). Here’s something that might make up for that: If you subscribe to their newsletter you’ll receive free hair tips to keep your hair looking organically amazing. Sweet!

Rose Hair Elixir

Why you want it: This beautifully scented serum will give your hair body without the frizz.

Its value: $16

My review: As most of you know, I’m rose obsessed, so getting this in the mail was a win. As soon as I opened the sample and took a whiff, my nose was in heaven. I’m not sure if any of you have smelled pure rose absolute essential oil, but it smells exactly like that. The rose scent is so intoxicating (without actual toxins) that I fell for it almost instantly. I also loved how it’s made with 15 different plant oils, and only 2 ingredients in it aren’t organic (but they are still natural). Nigella Sativa (Black Cumin) Seed Oil and Tocopherol are the only nonorganic ingredients, but I did a little digging. Tocopherol received a rating of 1 (which is extremely low hazard) on Environmental Working Group’s (EWG) Skindeep Database. It functions as an antioxidant, fragrance ingredient, and a skin conditioning ingredient. Black Cumin Seed Oil also had a low hazard rating of 1 on EWG’s website. It too is used as a skin conditioning agent. A skin conditioning agent is simply an ingredient that helps attract and hold moisture in the skin. With that said, every ingredient in this elixir, organic or not, is completely clean (as The Innate Life promised). To apply it, I simply dabbed a little of it (roughly the size of a dime) directly onto the ends of my hair after a shower. I only applied it to my hair after showering because it works as a heat protectant while blow drying. I never put it on my scalp because my hair is oily enough without any added help, though one could use this as a scalp treatment, according to The Innate Life. When I applied it to my hair, I worked it through using my fingers, then blow dried as normal. The results were apparent almost immediately: My hair looked awesome after it was dry. It had volume to it and very little frizz. I would compare it to the EVOLVh hair products I’ve used in the past, specifically the SmartVolume Leave in Conditioner. It gave the same sort of volume and did a good job of taming my frizz. The effects lasted into the next day too, and my day-after-shower hair wasn’t absolutely disgusting and greasy (which was nice). I won’t say this product can work miracles or was better than the other hair oils/serums I’ve tried, but it’s definitely on the same level as them. I still have some left, but I’ve been using it consistently for the past week and loving it. I’d definitely recommend this product to any rose-loving girl who wants volume with minimal frizz.
